    Never the less, they serve a vital function in business. When someone is trying to sell you something, you cut off their spiel, asking them if they have a business card. When they hand you the card, you say "Thanks. We'll be in touch if we have a need" and show the salesman out.

    I'm told the recipient is more likely to use a business card to pick his teeth than for any other purpose.

    People who sell cars and homes tend to have really gaudy business cards. They want to stand out. It may be just my impression, but I think the salesmen with gaudier cards are the ones who think they're supposed to make you buy, and the ones with plainer cards figure their job is to help you buy.
